What is ICSI?
Intra Cytoplasmatic Sperm Injection or ICSI is a medically assisted reproduction process whereby a single sperm cell is injected into the centre of an egg cell, this means that fertilisation takes place occurs artificially.
ICSI-STRAWS.COM offers you the opportunity to allow your mare to undergo an OPU (Ovum-Pick Up) treatment and then benefit from the most exclusive stallions.
You choose the tariff that suits you best and we do the rest.
The benefits of ICSI
The ICSI operating process
1
OPU treatment
The mare is transported to the clinic where the OPU treatment takes place
For this treatment, the mare is put under epidural sedation in order to puncture follicles, making it possible to extract several egg cells.
2
Examination
Afterwards, the eggs that have been extracted are examined in a laboratory to see which are qualitatively suitable to be used for ICSI treatment. On average, 60% of the egg cells obtained by this method are normally usable.
3
Storage
The usable egg cells are then transported to Italy.
The reason why the egg cells are sent to Italy is because Italy is where all the exclusive frozen semen is stored.
4
Maturing
In Italy, a special liquid is added to ensure that the egg cells start maturing. Once this has taken place the egg cells can then be injected with sperm cells which have been selected for this purpose.
